Bundle Up!

This week has been a chilly week!  We began our Gingerbread unit.  We read The Gingerbread Man.  As I mentioned in conferences, understanding what your child reads is important.  We are practicing how to put the events in a story in order.  Everyone in the class is in charge of a certain part of the story and the class needs to but the events in order.  They will be drawing pictures and writing captions as well.
We have been talking about the genre of writing called fantasy.  We are saying fantasy is a story that is pretend, fiction, imaginary, and has characters, such as an animal that takes on human traits.  By the end of the week, your child will have a fantasy story well on its way.  Our goal is to have the story published before winter break.
Our holiday party will be next Friday in the afternoon.  A note will be going home today regarding the party.  There will be homework due that Friday.  I will have homework sent home that Friday that will be due the Friday after we return from break.
Stay warm and drive safe!

Two weeks left!

Good evening! I hope everyone’s week went well. Conferences were wonderful and I am very pleased that so many families came to speak with me. Report cards will be going home on Friday December 10, 2010. There is also a dinner at 6:00 p.m. that evening. I hope everyone will come. There is only two weeks before winter break!
In writing and reading, we will be covering fantasy. We will be reading many different gingerbread man stories. The students will also be creating a fantasy story of their own.
In math, we are working on two-digit addition. In school we talk about the ones place, ten place and the hundreds place. We will be practicing double digit addition through out the year. Keep practicing at home!
In social studies, we are going to be talking about freedom, liberty, common good and laws or rules. On Monday they will be using a problem solving worksheet to help decide how to solve a problem.
Keep up all of your hard work at home!
